I spent some time today at the Kutztown Folk Festival in Kutztown, Pa. – a fun place to photograph!  This image features a couple “hoedowning” on one of the entertainment stages.  Hoedowning is a type of folk or square dance.  It was 97 degrees outside today so I really felt for them out there kicking up their heels, but they made it look effortless!  Tomorrow is the last day of the festival which celebrates the Pennsylvania Dutch Culture through exhibits, crafts, demonstrations, food, and entertainment.  It’s always on my summer “to do” list.  If you live in the area, check it out.

It was a cold and blustery day today, but that is perfect weather for this Husky and his owner who were out for a walk in Historic Bethlehem, Pa.   In contrast to the days before Christmas, the streets of downtown Bethlehem were a little empty, even though the Christmas carols were still being played throughout the shopping district.  Everyone was inside the beautifully decorated stores or the elegant Hotel Bethlehem, trying to stay warm.  I must admit, I didn’t stay outside very long myself!  Brrrrr!

He was seated ringside and it appeared that his mom was an owner or handler or both as she was preparing to enter the ring with a very cute dog.  What an angelic face this little boy has!  He seemed to be daydreaming when I took this photo.  Possibly he was thinking about the day when he can become a junior handler and go in the ring with his furry best friend too!  [Processing note – I added a bit of watercolor effect to this image.]

Nope – these are NOT my feet.  I’m not a flip flop fan.  I like shoes with more support and protection than a flip flop offers.  Plus, I don’t like things between my toes.  According to many podiatrists, flip flops are not good for the feet [unless they are specialized flip flops designed with arch support, etc.].  Typical flip flops are especially tough on people with flatter feet because there is no arch support, they are bad for foot structure, and they can cause pain in the ankles, legs and feet.  I have yet to find the perfect “dog show shoes” that keep my feet comfy all day when I’m standing for hours on end at a show.  If anyone has any good shoe suggestions, send them my way!   I’ve tried several different types of sneakers, Birkenstock’s, etc., but so far haven’t had much success.  The only thing that makes my feet truly “happy feet” at a dog show is a chair!  🙂

This afternoon I spent a little while photographing the flowers in my garden.  My most favorite, Honeysuckle, is in bloom and the fragrance in the garden is delightful!  With the mild winter and lots of rain we’ve had this spring, my flowers are blooming better than ever!  The Honeysuckle is starting to fade, so I wanted to snap a few images before it is too late.  When I came back in the house, I turned on the computer and visited some of my favorite blogs.  I found a beautiful post by my friend, Sam Gray, featuring a Honeysuckle.  Check out his post here and be sure to visit his photo blog often – his work is amazing:  http://designbysamgray.com/blog/2012/06/09/sweet-smelling-honeysuckle/
Below are some more images of “What’s In Bloom” currently in my garden:  Clematis, Daisy and Spirea.
